President
I was honoured and privileged to be President during our Centenary year and enjoyed
working with the Captain and Committee, this together with the support of the Club
membership made it a most memorable year. Sincere thanks are due to all who have
been involved in the planning and organisation of the events which were held during the
year. In particular the Club is indebted to Bernard Brazil for his commitment and tireless
efforts in assembling and collating the facts and information provided in this
commemorative record.
When I was transferred to Swansea in 1970, a high priority was, which Golf Club to
apply to for membership. After assessing all the Courses in the area Langland Bay
seemed to be the obvious choice and my thirty-two years as a member proved it to
have been the right decision.
We have a friendly, sociable membership, a challenging Course with unsurpassed views,
which are fully appreciated when the “Golf sticks” refuse to perform.

There have been many amendments to the Course layout over the first hundred years
but since I joined the alterations have been fairly minor. These for example being an
increase in the overall length by extending the Greens or constructing new teeing
grounds, introducing internal “out of bounds”, adding strategically placed bunkers and
planting hundreds of trees.
The Club is very fortunate to have courteous, efficient, hard-working staff throughout
the Course, Office, Pro’s shop and Clubhouse; long may it continue.
Over the past hundred years many members have contributed to the progress and
development of the Club, all of which has benefited the present membership. It is
therefore incumbent upon the current membership, under the guidance of the Board, to
maintain this progress for the future of the Club.
Captain
As we near the end of 2004, I would like to say how proud I have been to be captain of
Langland Bay Golf Club during such an important year in the club’s history.
It has been a truly memorable year for me and I hope that you have all enjoyed the
events, both on and off the course, and in particular the new friends we have made from
visiting clubs such as Kinsale, Machynlleth and Haverfodwest.
As you can imagine the success of this year could not have happened without the hard
work of so many people. My thanks go to the board for their hard work and vision over
the past few years in preparing the club for this auspicious year, the centenary
committee for their enthusiasm in organising the events and to the staff who have
worked tirelessly in making sure this has been a year to remember.
Finally, I would like to thank all the members who have supported the club this year.
Having been a member for over 35 years, I believe, the club is as strong now as it has
ever been. As long as we keep looking forward I am sure it will go from strength to
strength and provide a wonderful golfing environment for generations to come.
