Chapter 7: 2004 Centenary Celebrations
Royal Visit, Friday 19th November 2004
Message from the Centenary Chairman
Eighteen months of preparation went into the planning of the Centenary Year and at no
time did the members of the Centenary Committee give anything but their best. I am
proud to have been associated with the celebrations and would like to mention here the
centenary committee in name who helped arrange all the events during the year. My
thanks and congratulations to the Captain Hugh Evans, the Vice Captain Peter Reeves,
the Ladies Captain Hazel Harris, the Professional Mark Evans, Mark Portsmouth, Phil
Mayhew and Bernard Brazil. In addition we asked John Pickard to Chair the Centenary
Week Celebrations, which he did with magnificent effect, and was helped in his
Centenary Dinner Dance celebrations organisation by Hazel, Stella Phillips, Bernard
Brazil, Lynne Coleman and Anne Morgans.
We also received invaluable suggestions and help from a number of members who were
too many to mention individually, although I would like to say a special personal thanks
to John Beer, John Latham and Lee Thomas.
Simon Hughes
Centenary Chairman
I am able to write this message with the benefit of hindsight in the knowledge that the
year has passed successfully and was well supported by all the members throughout
the year.
We have a club to be proud of, a course to be proud of. a membership to be proud of
and I hope people will agree that we had a Centenary Year to be proud of.
