Six steps up to an elevated tee just about allows you to see the green of
this the shortest Par 3 on the course. Short maybe but calling for
accuracy as the green is protected by a bunker in the front, two to the
left, one to the right and woodland to the right of the green. It has seen,
but most of the players have not seen, many holes in one over the years.
This Par 4 hole is more than a dog leg, it’s a right angle caused by the
tree nursery on the inside of the angle. The narrow green is bunkered
short right while a steep bank left of the green makes an accurate
approach shot critical. The Ladies tee near the lane makes the hole
straighter and much easier. The bell by the bunker short left should be
rung to allow the next game to drive off.

13th - Viv Peters 1986 - PRESSDEE’S
14th - Henry Booth 1987 - THE AVENUE
When the Club secured the use of the land bordering Caswell Hill,
allowing extension of the course, it was Bob Pressdee,Welsh
International, Glamorgan Champion and later Walker Cup selector, who
decided that a short Par 3 should be constructed with minimal alteration
of the existing hedged-field form of land. The ‘farm-field’ character of the
hole remains today, with hedges at the front and at both sides of a long,
narrow green.
The tee shot on this dog-leg hole is made more difficult by the avenue of
trees which narrow the way to the fairway. A small quarry and lime-kiln
was situated adjacent to the present tee, this providing limestone to
construct the farm buildings which became the original Clubhouse. The
14th disproves the theory that a Par 4 needs to be at least 400 yards to
provide a challenge. A classic risk/reward, challenging hole.
